are welded with splice plates. The connecting pieces' splice plates are
fastened together with bolts to form the frame. Flanges and webs must be joined
together on one side with a continuous fillet weld.
Engineers should take into account the clear
span between bearing points, bay spacing, roof slope, live loads, dead loads,
collateral loads, wind uplift, deflection criteria, internal crane system, and
the largest practical size and weight of fabricated members when designing a
